More Than Words

When owner Lee Ann McGhee was in college, she discovered calligraphy. From there she launched her home business. Soon she became interested in more than calligraphy and started buying gifts that she felt accented her work. A childhood desire to have a gift shop soon became a reality and she filled her shop with gifts and collectibles, jewelry and art from all over the world. Now, over 14 years later, what started as a home business, is more like a “cozy, charming department store” says McGhee. “You’re not going to feel lost or like nobody’s there to help you. Our staff takes a lot of time to help our customers. It’s just kind of a happy place”. The Small Business of the Year Award was accepted by Lee Ann McGhee’s daughter, Mallory.

Dazzle

Owned and operated by Amy and Michael Egerman, Dazzle has been a steadily growing business since it opened in 2007. When they moved to Memphis they found a wonderful assortment of stores at the higher and lower ends but a void in the middle for great looking, high quality merchandise at affordable prices, and they felt there was a huge growth potential for the marketplace when it comes to quality design. Dazzle offers fashion jewelry with an additional focus on handbags, scarves, watches and travel accessories. Products range from $3 to $100 but around 85% are priced at $50 and under. “When we decided to open Dazzle we wanted it to be about every individual who walked into the store. We wanted them to feel like this was their store. That’s how we wanted to live our lives – being connected to people” says Michael.
